Charles Bonnet Syndrome visions create a fascinating world where the realm of image crosses over into the
realm of perception.
Charles Bonnet Syndrome (CBS) is from any form of sight loss. An individual experiencing a vision understands what they are seeing in their reality is a hallucination – they have insight. Visions range from simple geometric forms to a wide variety of complex scenes.
This is not medical research. This project collaborates with the CBS community as co-creators employing a methodology that presents stories, memories, and narratives. While CBS is
considered a rare diagnosis, it is experienced by 20% of all people with sight loss. The research connects this phenomenon with metaphors—illustrating one concept through another. The
ambiguity of one idea sparks imaginative links bringing clarity to another.
Research Methods
A mixture of methodologies is being used for the research: phenomenology, auto-ethnography, and co-creating. Mixed methods allow for exploration from different perspectives. The co-creating process introduces designing with others and for others: for a purpose.
