Audio Description for Tears and Spotlight, 2025, Video Still co-created by Participant Forty-three, Dianne, and Victoria Hamilton, Chromaluxe print on HD Metal, 25 x 45cm.
The artwork titled ‘Tears and Spotlight’ is an unframed print created between 2024 – 2025. It measures 45 cm width and 25 cm high and is a Chromaluxe print on HD Metal – a method chosen to echo the clarity, depth, and vividness of the experience of a Charles Bonnet Vision.
In the image, a woman sits on a sofa in a retro style lounge room. Centrally positioned the perspective is slightly elevated and looking directly at her. With short, dark brown wavy hair, she wears a light pink top and skirt with a delicate pattern. Her expression is calm, her posture relaxed, as she sits cross-legged with her hands lightly clasped in her lap. The sofa, light pinkish-brown in colour, could seat two or three people comfortably.
The lounge room is filled with vintage furniture and objects. To the left stands a wooden side table with a small lamp and two taxidermy owls. A painting hangs out of focus on the back wall above a bookcase containing various items. Pale yellow curtains behind the woman allow soft light to reveal the window frame behind. On the right side of the image are wooden drawers and a wall hanging.
Unusually, a spotlight of white light emanates from the top right corner, highlighting the woman on the couch. In the top left corner floats a bright silver ball. Small teardrops appear to be raining down on the scene, giving it an unusual touch.
Overall the mood is quiet and serene. The diffused lighting imparts a calm, intimate atmosphere with a possible hint of melancholy. Participant Forty Three, Dianne, lives in Richland, America. This image is a still from a 40 second video created for the Visions of Charles Bonnet Syndrome research by Victoria Hamilton.

It measures 40 cm width and 10 cm high and is a multicoloured print on self-adhesive material, chosen for its clarity in gallery settings and ease of installation.
On the left end of the image, a black-and-white QR code enclosed in a square with chamfered corners spans the full height. Further across the top, the title ‘Tears and Spotlight’, appears centrally placed in large bold black text. To the right edge is ‘the vision of Participant Forty-three | Dianne (please note some of the participants in this research have chosen to disclose their identity). Beneath, a sentence reads: “video still co-created by Participant Forty-three, Dianne, and Victoria Hamilton.” Below this top line of text, stretching from the QR code to the image’s right edge, is a line of four coloured shapes: a light brown dotted circle, grey rectangle with curved corners, a purple dotted circle, and a pink circle. These shapes are connected by a thin white line running behind them.
The light brown dotted circle features a title arc of text reading: Action taken on having CBS vision. Across the middle is written: They are primarily in bed or watching tv when they have their visions. The grey rectangle with curved corners contains a world map with small coloured placemarks indicating participants origins. A light blue fuzzy circle is located over West America region of the world. Next is a larger purple dotted circle containing text reading: Focus group 3: sight loss – 10 laser surgeries on my eyes. My retina detached 6 years ago. And then I had four surgeries on my right eye, plus the retinal detachments – that was five. Then on my left eye, I started getting holes and tears. The final diagram is a pink dotted circle depicting a field of view representing areas of vision loss. Participant Forty-three’s diagram shows loss of vision left and right sides.
The overall information represents a participant from West America who has sight loss from retinal detachments and surgeries and experience CBS generally in the home environment.
